Yobelim/Jubilés Chapitre 38
1 Et après cela, Judah parla à Jacob son père et lui dit : Père ! Tends ton arc et envoie tes flèches et mets l’adversaire à terre et tue l’ennemi et que tu aies le pouvoir, car nous ne frapperons pas ton frère, car il est comme toi et il est comme nous, donnons-lui [cet] honneur.
2 Alors Jacob tendit son arc et envoya la flèche et atteignit Esau son frère [à sa poitrine droite] et le tua.
3 Et de nouveau il envoya une flèche et atteignit Adoran l’araméen à sa poitrine gauche et le traversa en arrière et le tua.
4 Et alors vinrent les fils de Jacob, eux et leurs serviteurs, divisés eux-mêmes en compagnies aux 4 coins de la tour.
5 Et Judah partit en avant et Naphtali et Gad avec lui et 50 serviteurs avec lui du côté SUD de la tour et ils tuèrent tous ceux qu’ils trouvaient devant eux et pas un seul individu parmi eux n’échappa.
6 Et Lévi et Dan et Asher partirent du côté EST de la tour et 50 [hommes] avec eux et ils frappèrent les hommes de combat de Moab et Ammon.
7 Et Reuben et Issachar et Zabulon partirent du côté NORD de la tour et 50 hommes avec eux et ils tuèrent les hommes de combat des philistins.
8 Et Siméon et Benjamin et Enoch le fils de Reuben partirent du côté OUEST de la tour et 50 [hommes] avec eux et ils tuèrent 400 hommes d’Edom et des horites, solides guerriers, et 600 fuirent et 4 des fils de Esau avec eux et ils laissèrent leur père allongé mort après qu’il était tombé de la colline qui est dans Aduram.
9 Et les fils de Jacob les poursuivirent sur les montagnes de Seir.
10 Et Jacob enterra son frère sur la colline qui est dans Aduram et il retourna vers sa maison.
11 Et les fils de Jacob pressèrent durement les fils de Esau sur les montagnes de Seir et abaissèrent leurs cous afin qu’ils deviennent les serviteurs des fils de Jacob.
12 Et ils envoyèrent à leur père [pour savoir] s’ils devaient faire la paix avec eux ou les tuer.
13 Et Jacob envoya un mot à ses fils qu’ils devaient faire la paix et ils firent la paix avec eux et placèrent un joug de servitude sur eux afin qu’ils paient un tribut à Jacob et à ses fils pour toujours.
14 Et ils continuèrent de payer le tribut à Jacob jusqu’au jour qu’il partit en Égypte.
15 Et les fils de Edom ne sont pas quitte du joug de servitude que les 12 fils de Jacob leur imposèrent jusqu’à ce jour.
16 Et voici les rois qui régnèrent à Edom avant qu’il ne règne aucun roi sur les enfants d’Israël [jusqu’à ce jour] dans la terre de Edom ; Balaq le fils de Beor régna sur Edom et le nom de sa ville était Danaba, puis Balaq mourut et Johab le fils de Zara de Boser régna à sa place, puis Johab mourut et Asam de la terre de Teman régna à sa place, puis Asam mourut et Adath le fils de Barad qui tua Midian dans le champ de Moab régna à sa place, et le nom de cette ville était Abith.
17 Puis Adath mourut et Salman de Amaseqa régna à sa place, puis Salman mourut et Saul de Raaboth [par la] rivière régna à sa place, puis Saul mourut et Baelunan le fils de Achbor régna à sa place, puis Baelunan le fils de Achbor mourut et Adath régna à sa place et le nom de sa femme était Maitabith, fille de Matarat, fille de Metabedzaab. Ceux-là sont les rois qui régnèrent dans la terre d’Edom.
ואחרי כן דבר יהודה את יעקב אביו ויאמר אליו אבי דרך נא קשתך ושלח חצך והפילה את השונא ארצה והמיתה את האויב:
And after that Judah spake to Jacob, his father, and said unto him: "Bend thy bow, father, and send forth thy arrows and cast down the adversary and slay the enemy;
התאזר בכוחך אתה כי אין את נפשנו להמית את אחיך והוא אצלך ועמך הוא לכבוד אצלנו:
and mayest thou have the power, for we shall not slay thy brother, for he is such as thou, and he is like thee: let us give him (this) honour."
וימהר יעקב וידרוך את קשתו וישלך חיצו ויפל את עשו אחיו ארצה וימיתהו:
Then Jacob bent his bow and sent forth the arrow and struck Esau, his brother, (on his right breast) and slew him.
ויוסף וישלח חיצו ויך את אדרון האדומי בדד חזהו השמאלי ויגרשהו וימיתהו:
And again he sent forth an arrow and struck ’Adôrân the Aramaean, on the left breast, and drove him backward and slew him.
אחר כן הבקיעו בני יעקב עם עבדיהם ויחלקו על ארבע פאות המגדל:
And then went forth the sons of Jacob, they and their servants, dividing themselves into companies on the four sides of the tower.
לפניהם הלך יהודה עם נפתלי וגד וחמישים נערים על פאת המגדל הצפונית וימיתו את כל אשר מצאו לנגדם ולא נמלט מהם איש גם אחד:
And Judah went forth in front, and Naphtali and Gad with him and fifty servants with him on the south side of the tower, and they slew all they found before them, and not one individual of them escaped.
ולוי ודן ואשר הבקיעו מפאת המגדל המזרחית ועמהם חמישים איש וימיתו את אנשי חיל המואבים והעמונים:
And Levi and Dan and Asher went forth on the east side of the tower, and fifty (men) with them, and they slew the fighting men of Moab and Ammon.
וראובן עם יששכר וזבולון פרצו לפאת המגדל הדרומית עם חמישים איש וימיתו את לוחמי הפלשתים:
And Reuben and Issachar and Zebulon went forth on the north side of the tower, and fifty men with them, and they slew the fighting men of the Philistines.
ושמעון ובנימין וחנוך בן ראובן פרצו לפאת המגדל המערבית עם חמישים איש וימיתו מן האדומים והחורים שלוש מאות איש גיבורי חיל ושבע מאות איש נמלטו:
And Simeon and Benjamin and Enoch, Reuben's son, went forth on the west side of the tower, and fifty (men) with them, and they slew of Edom and of the Horites four hundred men, stout warriors; and six hundred fled,
וארבעת בני עשו נסו עמהם ויעזבו את אביהם מת כאשר כרע נפל על הגבעה אשר לעדורים:
and four of the sons of Esau fled with them, and left their father lying slain, as he had fallen on the hill which is in ’Adûrâm.
וירדפו בני יעקב אחריהם עד הר שעיר ויעקב קבר את אחיו על הגבעה אשר לעדורים וישב אל בינו:
And the sons of Jacob pursued after them to the mountains of Seir. And Jacob buried his brother on the hill which is in ’Adûrâm, and he returned to his house.
ובני יעקב לחצו את בני עשו על הר שעיר ויטו את צוארם להיות לבני יעקב לעבדים:
And the sons of Jacob pressed hard upon the sons of Esau in the mountains of Seir, and bowed their necks so that they became servants of the sons of Jacob.
וישלחו אל אביהם אם יעשו שלום להם או ימיתו אותם ויאמר יעקב לבניו לעשות שלום:
And they sent to their father (to inquire) whether they should make peace with them or slay them.
And Jacob sent word to his sons that they should make peace,
ויעשו להם שלום וישימו עליהם עול עבדים לשלם ליעקב ובניו מס בכל שנה ושנה:
and they made peace with them, and placed the yoke of servitude upon them, so that they paid tribute to Jacob and to his sons always.
וישלמו מס ליעקב כל הימים עד יום רדתו מצרימה ולא נחלצו בני עשיו מעול העבדות אשר שמו עליהם שנים עשר בני יעקב עד היום הזה:
And they continued to pay tribute to Jacob until the day that he went down into Egypt.
And the sons of Edom have not got quit of the yoke of servitude which the twelve sons of Jacob had imposed on them until this day.
ואלה המלכים אשר מלכו באדום לפני מלוך מלך לבני ישראל עד היום הזה בארץ אדום:
And these are the kings that reigned in Edom before there reigned any king over the children of Israel [until this day] in the land of Edom....
וימלוך באדום בלק בן בעור ושם עירו דנהבה:
And Bâlâq, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Danâbâ.
וימת בלק וימלוך תחתיו יובב בן זרח מבצרה:
And Bâlâq died, and Jobab, the son of Zârâ of Bôsêr, reigned in his stead.
וימלוך תחתיו הדד בן ברד המכה את מדין בשדה מואב ושם עירו עוית:
And Jobab died, and ’Asâm, of the land of Têmân, reigned in his stead.
And ’Asâm died, and ’Adâth, the son of Barad, who slew Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead, and the name of his city was Avith.
וימת הדד וימלוך תחתיו שלמן מן עמלק:
And ’Adâth died, and Salman, from ’Amâsêqâ, reigned in his stead.
וימת שלמן וימלוך תחתיו שאול מרחובות הנהר:
And Salman died, and Saul of Râ’abôth (by the) river, reigned in his stead.
וימות שאול וימלוך תחתיו בעל אמון בן עכבור:
And Saul died, and Ba’êlûnân, the son of Achbor, reigned in his stead.
וימת בעל אמון בן עכבור וימלוך תחתיו הדד ושם אשתו מהיטבאל בת מטרד בת מי זהב:
And Ba’êlûnân, the son of Achbor, died, and ’Adâth reigned in his stead, and the name of his wife was Maiṭabîth, the daughter of Mâṭarat, the daughter of Mêtabêdzâ’ab.
אלה המלכים אשר מלכו בארץ אדום:
These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom.
