Yobelim/Jubilés Chapitre 35
1 Et dans la 1e année de la 1e semaine du 45e jubilé, Rébecca appela Jacob son fils et lui commanda concernant son père et concernant son frère qu’il devait les honorer tous les jours de sa vie.
2 Et Jacob dit : Je ferai tout ce que tu me commanderas, car cette chose sera un honneur et une fierté pour moi et une justice devant 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) que de leur faire honneur.
3 Et toi mère, reconnais aussi que depuis que je suis né jusqu’à ce jour, dans toutes mes actions et tout ce qui est dans mon cœur, je pense toujours du bien au sujet de tous.
4 Et comment ne ferai-je pas cette chose que tu me commandes d’honorer mon père et mon frère ?
5 Dis-moi mère, quelle perversité as-tu vu en moi et je m’en détournerai et que pitié me soit accordée.
6 Et elle lui dit : Mon fils, je n’ai pas vu en toi aucune perversité durant tous mes jours mais [seulement] des actions droites.
7 Et maintenant mon fils, je vais te dire la vérité ; je vais mourir cette année et je ne survivrai pas cette année de ma vie, car j’ai vu dans un rêve le jour de ma mort ; je ne vivrai pas au-delà de 155 ans.
8 Voici, j’ai complété tous les jours de ma vie que j’avais à vivre.
9 Et Jacob rit aux paroles des sa mère, car sa mère lui avait dit qu’elle devait mourir - elle était assise à l’opposé de lui et en possession de sa force et elle n’était pas infirme de sa force, car elle allait et venait et voyait, et ses dents étaient fortes et aucun mal ne l’avait touché tous les jours de sa vie.
10 Et Jacob lui dit : Mère, je serai béni si mes jours approchent les jours de ta vie et que ma force demeure avec moi comme ta force - tu ne mourras pas, car tu es en train de plaisanter avec moi concernant ta mort.
12 Et tu sais tout ce qu’il a fait depuis que son frère Jacob partit à Haran jusqu’à ce jour, comme il nous a abandonné de tout son cœur et nous a fait du mal, les troupeaux qu’il a pris pour lui et retira toutes tes possessions devant ta face.
13 Et quand nous implorèrent et le sollicitèrent pour ce qui était à nous, il agit comme un homme qui avait pitié de nous.
14 Il est amer contre nous parce que tu as béni Jacob le parfait et juste fils, car il n’y a pas de mal mais que du bien en lui, et depuis qu’il est revenu de Haran jusqu’à ce jour, il ne nous a rien volé, car il nous a toujours apporté toute chose en sa saison et se réjouit de tout son cœur quand nous prenions de ses mains et il nous bénissait et ne s’est pas retiré de nous depuis qu’il est revenu de Haran jusqu’à ce jour et il reste en permanence avec nous à la maison nous honorant.
15 Et Isaac lui dit : Moi aussi connais et vois les actions de Jacob qui est avec nous, comment de tout son cœur il nous honore, mais avant j’aimais Esau plus que Jacob, car il était mon premier-né, mais maintenant j’aime Jacob plus que Esau, car il a fait plusieurs fois de mauvaises actions et il n’y a pas de droiture en lui, car toutes ses voies sont injustes et violentes [et il n’y a pas de justice autour de lui].
16 Et maintenant mon cœur est troublé à cause de toutes ses actions, et ni lui ni sa semence seront saufs, car ils sont ceux qui seront détruits de la terre et qui seront déracinés de dessous le ciel, car il a abandonné l'Elohim d’Abraham et suivit ses femmes, suivant leur impureté et suivant leur erreur, lui et ses enfants, et tu m’obliges de le faire jurer qu’il ne tuera pas Jacob son frère : même s’il jurait il ne s’obligera pas à ce serment et il ne fera pas de bien mais du mal seulement.
17 Mais s’il désire tuer Jacob son frère, entre les mains de Jacob sera-t-il livré et il ne s’échappera pas de ses mains [car il tombera dans ses mains].
18 Et ne crains pas au sujet de Jacob, car le Gardien de Jacob est grand et puissant et honoré et loué plus que le gardien d’Esau.
19 Et Rébecca envoya appeler Esau et il vint à elle et elle lui dit : J’ai une requête mon fils à te faire et me promettre de le faire mon fils.
20 Et il dit : Je ferai tout ce que tu me diras et je ne refuserai pas ta requête.
21 Et elle lui dit : Je te demande que le jour que je mourrais de me prendre et m’enterrer près de Sarah, la mère de ton père, et de vous aimer toi et Jacob, l’un l’autre d’un amour mutuel et seulement que personne ne désire faire le mal contre l’autre, car [ainsi] vous prospèrerez mes fils et serez honorés au milieu de la terre et aucun ennemi ne se réjouira sur vous et vous serez une bénédiction et une grâce aux yeux de tous ceux qui vous aiment.
22 Et il dit : Je ferai tout ce que tu m’as dit et je t’enterrerai le jour de ta mort près de Sarah la mère de mon père comme tu le désires, que ses os soient près de tes os.
23 Et Jacob mon frère, je l’aimerai par-dessus toute chair, car je n’ai pas de frère que lui seul sur la terre et ce n’est pas un grand mérite pour moi de l’aimer, car il est mon frère et nous avons été tissé ensemble dans ton corps et sortîmes ensemble de ton ventre.
24 Et si je n’aime pas mon frère, qui aimerai-je ?
25 Et moi-même te supplie d’exhorter Jacob à mon sujet et au sujet de mes fils, car je sais qu’il sera certainement roi sur moi et mes fils, car le jour que mon père l’a béni, il l’a mis en haut et moi en bas.
26 Et je te jure que je l’aimerai et ne désirerai pas le mal contre lui tous les jours de ma vie mais seulement du bien.
27 Et il lui jura à propos de toute cette affaire.
28 Et elle appela Jacob devant les yeux d’Esau et lui donna ordre selon les paroles qu’elle avait dites à Esau.
29 Et il dit : Je ferai selon ton plaisir, crois-moi qu’aucun mal ne sortira de moi ou de mes fils contre Esau et je serai premier en rien sauf par amour.
ובשנה הראשונה לשבוע הראשון ליובל החמישה וארבעים קראה רבקה לבנה ליעקב ותצוהו על אביו ועל אחיו לכבד אותם כל ימי חייו:
And in the first year of the first week of the forty-fifth jubilee Rebecca called Jacob, her son, and commanded him regarding his father and regarding his brother, that he should honour them all the days of his life.
ויאמר הנני לעשות ככל אשר ציויתני כי לכבוד ולהדר יהיה לי הדבר הזה וצדקה לפני ה' בכבדי אותם:
And Jacob said: "I will do everything as thou hast commanded me; for this thing will be honour and greatness to me, and righteousness before the Lord, that I should honour them.
וגם ידעת מיום הולדי עד היום הזה את כל מעשי ואת כל מורשי לבבי כי יצר מחשבתי רק טוב להם כל היום:
And thou too, mother, knowest from the time I was born until this day, all my deeds and all that is in my heart, that I always think good concerning all.
ואיך אחדל איפה מעשות את אשר ציויתני לכבד את אבי ואת אחי אמרי נא לי אמי אי זו הרעה אשר הראיתיך כי בשגם רחוק אני ממנו ושלום בינינו:
And how should I not do this thing which thou hast commanded me, that I should honour my father and my brother! Tell me, mother, what perversity hast thou seen in me and I shall turn away from it, and mercy will be upon me."
ותאמר אליו בני מעודי לא ראיתי כל תהפוכות כי אם צדקה ואמורה לך בני כי בשנה הזאת אמות:
And she said unto him: "My son, I have not seen in thee all my days any perverse but (only) upright deeds. And yet I shall tell thee the truth, my son: I shall die this, year,
כי ראיתי בחלומי את יום מותי כי לא אחיה יותר ממאה וחמישים שנה והנה מלאתי את כל ימי חיי אשר לי:
and I shall not survive this year in my life; for I have seen in a dream the day of my death, that I should not live beyond a hundred and fifty-five years: and behold I have completed all the days of my life which I am to live."
ויצחק יעקב על דברי אמו באמור אליו אמו כי מות תמות בעודנה יושבת לעומתו בעצם תומה ולא נס לחה:
And Jacob laughed at the words of his mother, because his mother had said unto him that she should die; and she was sitting opposite to him in possession of her strength, and she was not infirm in her strength;
כי באה ויצאה וראתה ושיניה היו טובים וכל מחלה לא נגעה בה בכל ימי חייה:
for she went in and out and saw, and her teeth were strong, and no ailment had touched her all the days of her life.
ויאמר יעקב אליה באשרי אמי אם ידמו חיי לאורך ימיך ואעמוד בעצם תומי כמוך לא מות תמותי כי חינם תדברי איתי על דבר מותך:
And Jacob said unto her: "Blessed am I, mother, if my days approach the days of thy life, and my strength remain with me thus as thy strength: and thou wilt not die, for thou art jesting idly with me regarding thy death."
ותבוא אל יצחק ותאמר אליו שאלה אנוכי שואלת ממך השבע את עשו לבל יעשה ליעקב כל רע ולא ישטמהו לעולם:
And she went in to Isaac and said unto him: "One petition I make unto thee: make Esau swear that he will not injure Jacob, nor pursue him with enmity;
כי אתה ידעת את יצר מחשבות עשו כי פרא הוא מנעוריו ואין חנינה בקרבו כי מתנחם הוא להרגו אחרי מותך:
for thou knowest Esau's thoughts that they are perverse from his youth, and there is no goodness in him; for he desireth after thy death to kill him.
וגם ידעת את כל אשר עשה כל הימים למן היום אשר הלך יעקב אחיו חרנה ועד היום הזה:
And thou knowest all that he hath done since the day Jacob his brother went to Haran until this day;
את אשר עזב אותנו בכל לבבו וירע לעשות לנו את אשר משך ולקח לו את מקניך ואת כל רכושך גזל ממך על פניך:
how he hath forsaken us with his whole heart, and hath done evil to us; thy flocks he hath taken to himself, and carried off all thy possessions from before thy face.
וכאשר התחננו אליו ושאלנו את אשר לנו עשה כאילו נכמרו רחמיו עלינו:
And when we implored and besought him for what was our own, he did as a man who was taking pity on us.
וליבו רע עליך על אשר ברכת את בנך החסיד והישר את יעקב כי אין כל רע בקרבו רק טוב כל היום:
And he is bitter against thee because thou didst bless Jacob thy perfect and upright son; for there is no evil but only goodness in him,
ומעת שובו מחרן עד היום הזה לא עשק אותנו דבר כל מאומה כי אם הכל בוא יבוא אלינו בעתו ובלי חשך:
and since he came from Haran unto this day he hath not robbed us of aught, for he bringeth us everything in its season always,
ושמח ישמח בכל לבבו אם נקח מידו דבר ויברך אותנו ולא נפרד מעימנו מעת בואו מחרן עד היום הזה:
and rejoiceth with all his heart when we take at his hands, and he blesseth us, and hath not parted from us since he came from Haran until this day,
והוא יושב תמיד אצלנו בבית בכבדו אותנו:
and he remaineth with us continually at home honouring us."
ויאמר יצחק אליה גם אנוכי יודע ורואה מעשה יעקב לנו כי יכבד אותנו בכל:
And Isaac said unto her: "I, too, know and see the deeds of Jacob who is with us, how that with all his heart he honoureth us;
אהבתי לפנים את עשו מיעקב באשר נולד ראשון ועתה אוהב אני את יעקב מעשו כי הרע מעשהו מאוד ואין לו צדקה:
but I loved Esau formerly more than Jacob, because he was the first-born; but now I love Jacob more than Esau, for he hath done manifold evil deeds, and there is no righteousness in him,
כי כל דרכיו עוול וחמס ואין בו צדקה:
for all his ways are unrighteousness and violence, [and there is no righteousness around him].
וגם ליבי סחרחר עתה בגלל כל מעלליו ולא ייטב לו ולזרעו כי אם יאבדו מן הארץ ויכרתו מתחת השמים:
And now my heart is troubled because of all his deeds, and neither he nor his seed is to be saved, for they are those who will be destroyed from the earth, and who will be rooted out from under heaven,
כי עזב את אלוהי אברהם והלך אחרי נשיו אחר הטומאה וזנותם הוא ובניו:
for he hath forsaken the God of Abraham and gone after his wives and after their uncleanness and after their error, he and his children.
ואת תאמרי אלי כי השבע אשביע אותו לבלתי המית את יעקב וגם כי נשבע הלא כמוהו כאין ולא יעשה טוב כי אם רע:
And thou dost bid me make him swear that he will not slay Jacob, his brother; even if he swear he will not abide by his oath, and he will not do good but evil only.
וכי יחפוץ להמית את יעקב אחיו הנתן ינתן ביד יעקב ולא ימלט מידו כי נפול יפול בידו:
But if he desireth to slay Jacob, his brother, into Jacob's hands will he be given, and he will not escape from his hands, [for he will descend into his hands.]
ואת אל תיראי בעבוד יעקב כי שומר יעקב הוא אביר וברוך ומהולל משומר עשיו:
And fear thou not on account of Jacob; for the guardian of Jacob is great and powerful and honoured, and praised more than the guardian of Esau."
ותשלח רבקה ותקרא לעשו ויבוא אליה ותאמר אליו שאלה אנוכי שואלת מעמך בני והואיל נא לעשות את אשר אומר אליך בני:
And Rebecca sent and called Esau, and he came to her, and she said unto him: "I have a petition, my son, to make unto thee, and do thou promise to do it, my son."
ויאמר הנני לעשות את כל אשר תאמרי אלי ולא אמנע את שאלתך:
And he said: "I will do everything that thou sayest unto me, and I will not refuse thy petition."
ותאמר אליו הנני שואלת מעמך כי במותי תשאני ותקברני אל שרה אם אביך:
And she said unto him: "I ask you that the day I die, thou wilt take me in and bury me near Sarah, thy father's mother,
וכי תאהבו איש את אחיו אתה ויעקב אחיך ולא יחשוב איש רעה על אחיו כי אם באהבה יחיו יחדו:
and that thou and Jacob will love each other, and that neither will desire evil against the other, but mutual love only,
למען תצליחו בני ותכבדו על הארץ ולא ישמח אויב עליכם ומצאתם רחמים בעיני כל אוהביכם:
and (so) ye will prosper, my sons, and be honoured in the midst of the land, and no enemy will rejoice over you, and ye will be a blessing and a mercy in the eyes of all those that love you."
ויאמר הנני לעשות את כל אשר אמרת אלי ובמותך אקבור אותך אל שרה אם אבי באהבתך את עצמותיה כי תהיינה אצל עצמותיך:
And he said: "I will do all that thou hast told me, and I shall bury thee on the day thou diest near Sarah, my father's mother, as thou hast desired that her bones may be near thy bones.
וגם את יעקב אחי אוהב מכל בשר אין לי אח על כל הארץ מלבדו:
And Jacob, my brother, also, I shall love above all flesh; for I have not a brother in all the earth but him only:
ולא אגדיל לעשות באהבתי אותו כי אחי הוא ושנינו יחד נזרענו בבטנך ויחדו יצאנו מרחמך:
and this is no great merit for me if I love him; for he is my brother, and we were sown together in thy body, and together came we forth from thy womb,
ואם לא אוהב את אחי את מי אוהב? ואבקשה ממך גם אני כי תצוי את יעקב עלי ועל בני כאשר ידעתי כי מלוך ימלוך עלי ועל בני:
and if I do not love my brother, whom shall I love?
And I, myself, beg thee to exhort Jacob concerning me and concerning my sons, for I know that he will assuredly be king over me and my sons,
כי ביום אשר ברך אבי אותו שם אותו לגביר ואותי לעבד:
for on the day my father blessed him he made him the higher and me the lower.
ונשבעתי לך כי אאהב אותו ולא אחרוש עליו רעה כל ימי חיי בלתי אך טוב:
And I swear unto thee that I shall love him, and not desire evil against him all the days of my life but good only."
וישבע לה על כל הדבר הזה:
And he sware unto her regarding all this matter.
ותקרא את יעקב לעיני עשא ותצוהו על פי הדברים אשר דברה אל עשו:
And she called Jacob before the eyes of Esau, and gave him commandment according to the words which she had spoken to Esau.
ויאמר הנני לעשות רצונך בערוב נפשי כי לא יצא כל רע ממני ומבני על עשו אחי ורק אהבה תקדמהו:
And he said: "I shall do thy pleasure; believe me that no evil will proceed from me or from my sons against Esau, and I shall be first in naught save in love only."
ויאכלו וישתו היא ובניה בלילה ההוא:
And they ate and drank, she and her sons that night, and she died, three jubilees and one week and one year old, on that night,
ויקברו אותה שני בניה עשו ויעקב אל המערה אצל שרה אם אביהם:
and her two sons, Esau and Jacob, buried her in the double cave near Sarah, their father's mother.
