1 Et dans la 3e semaine de ce jubilé, les démons impurs commencèrent à faire diverger les enfants des fils de Noah et les égarer et les détruire.
2 Et les fils de Noah vinrent vers Noah leur père et ils lui parlèrent au sujet des démons qui les faisaient diverger, aveuglant et tuant les fils de ses fils.
3 Et il pria devant 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) son Elohim et dit : Elohim des souffles de toute chair qui me montra miséricorde et sauva, moi et mes fils, des eaux du déluge et qui n’a pas permis que je périsse comme tu fis avec les fils de perdition, car ta grâce a été grande envers moi et grande a été ta miséricorde pour mon âme.
4 Que ta grâce soit au-dessus de mes fils et ne laisse pas de mauvais souffles les dominer pour qu’ils les détruisent de la terre.
5 Mais bénis-moi avec mes fils que nous puissions grandir et multiplier et remplir la terre.
6 Et tu sais comment les vigiles, les pères de ces souffles agissaient dans mon temps et ainsi que pour ces souffles qui existent ;
7 emprisonne-les et retiens-les dans la place de condamnation et ne les laisse pas apporter la destruction sur les fils de ton serviteur, mon Elohim, car ils sont malins et créés pour détruire.
8 Et ne les laisse pas dominer sur les souffles des vivants, car toi seul peut exercer domination sur eux.
9 Ne les laisse pas avoir pouvoir sur les fils des justes à compter de ce jour et à toujours.
10 Et 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) notre Elohim ordonna de les attacher tous.
11 Et Mastema le chef des souffle vint et dit : 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) Créateur, laisse certains d’entre eux demeurer devant moi et qu’ils écoutent ma voix et fasse tout ce que je leur dirai ; car si certains d’entre eux ne reste pas avec moi, je serais incapable d’exécuter le pouvoir de ma volonté sur les fils des hommes, car ceux-là sont pour la corruption et l’égarement devant mon jugement, car grande est la cruauté des fils des hommes.
12 Et Il dit : Que la 10e part d’entre eux demeure devant lui et que les 9 parts descendent dans la place de condamnation.
13 Et Il commanda à l’un de nous que nous devions apprendre à Noah toutes leurs médecines, car il savait qu’ils ne marcheraient pas dans la droiture, ni endurer la justice.
14 Et nous firent selon toutes ses paroles ; nous attachâmes tous ceux au souffle malin dans la place de condamnation et nous laissâmes une 10e partie d’entre eux pour qu’ils soient soumis devant satan (l'adversaire) sur la terre.
15 Et nous expliquâmes à Noah toutes les médecines de leurs maladies, ensemble avec leurs maléfices, comment il pouvait les guérir avec des herbes de la terre.
16 Et Noah écrivit toutes choses dans un Livre ainsi que nous l’instruisîmes au sujet de chaque type de médecine et alors les souffles mauvais furent empêchés de [blesser] les fils de Noah.
17 Et il donna tout ce qu’il avait écrit à Shem son fils aîné, car il l’aimait extrêmement par-dessus tous ses fils.
18 Et Noah dormit avec ses pères et fut enterré au mont Lubar dans la terre d’Ararat.
19 Il compléta sa vie à 950 ans ; 19 jubilés et 2 semaines et 5 ans. Et durant sa vie il excellait les enfants des hommes, excepté Hénoc à cause de la justice avec laquelle il était parfait.
20 La fonction d’Henoc était ordonnée pour témoigner aux générations du monde pour qu’il puisse rapporter toutes leurs actions de génération en génération jusqu’au jour du jugement.

21 Et dans la 1e année de la 2e semaine du 34e jubilé, Peleg prit pour lui une femme dont le nom était Lomna, fille de Sinaar, et dans la 4e année de cette semaine elle lui porta un fils et il appela son nom Reu, car il dit : Voici que les enfants des hommes sont devenus malveillants par leur mauvais dessein de se construire pour eux une ville et une tour dans le pays de Shinar.
22 Car ils sont partis vers l’EST du pays d’Ararat à Shinar, et dans ces jours ils ont construit la ville et la tour en se disant : Allez, qu’ainsi nous montions au ciel. Et dans la 4e semaine ils commencèrent à construire et ils firent des briques au feu et les briques leur servaient de pierre et ils les cimentaient ensemble avec l’argile qui est l’asphalte qui vient de la mer et des fontaines d’eau du pays de Shinar.
23 Et ils construisirent cela ; 43 ans pour construire cela.
24 La largeur [d’une brique] était de 2 briques et la hauteur était le tiers d’une ; sa hauteur comptait 5433 coudées et 2 paumes et [la superficie d’un mur était] 13 stades [et 30 stades de l’autre].
25 Et 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) notre Elohim nous dit : Voici ils sont un peuple et [cela] ont-ils commencé à faire et maintenant rien ne les retiendra. Allons, descendons et confondons leur langage pour qu’ils ne puissent comprendre la langue de l’autre et qu’ils se dispersent dans les villes et les nations et qu’un même objectif ne les lie plus jusqu’au jour du jugement.
26 Et 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) descendit et nous descendîmes avec Lui pour voir la ville et la tour que les enfants des hommes avaient construits.
27 Et Il confondit leur langage et ils ne pouvaient plus comprendre la langue de l’autre et ils cessèrent alors de construire la ville et la tour.
28 Pour cette raison tout le pays de Shinar est appelé Babel parce que 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) confondit là tout le langage des enfants des hommes et ils se dispersèrent alors dans leurs villes, chacun selon sa langue et sa nation.
29 Et 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) envoya un puissant vent contre la tour entre Asshur et Babylon dans le pays de Shinar et la renversa par terre, et ils appelèrent son nom Renverser.

29 Et 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 (YHWH) envoya un puissant vent contre la tour entre Asshur et Babylon dans le pays de Shinar et la renversa par terre, et ils appelèrent son nom Renverser.
30 Au début de la 1e année de la 4e semaine du 34e jubilé, ils furent dispersés du pays de Shinar, et Ham et ses fils allèrent dans la terre qu’il devait occuper, qu’il acquit comme sa portion dans le pays du SUD.
31 Et Canaan vit que le pays du Liban jusqu’à la rivière d’Égypte était très bon et il n’alla pas dans le pays de son héritage vers l’OUEST [qui est vers] la mer et il habita dans le pays du Liban, à l’EST et l’OUEST de la frontière du Jourdain et à la frontière de la mer.
32 Et Ham son père et Cush et Mizraim ses frères lui dirent : Tu accapares un pays qui n’est pas le tien et qui ne t’est pas échu dans ton lot.
33 Ne fais pas ça, car si tu fais ça, toi et tes fils tomberont dans le pays et [serez] maudits de révolte, car tu accapares par révolte et par révolte tes enfants tomberont et tu seras toujours déraciné à jamais.
34 N’habite pas dans l’habitation de Shem, car cela revient à Shem et à ses fils dans leur lot.
35 Maudit sois-tu et maudit seras-tu devant tous les fils de Noah selon la malédiction par laquelle nous nous sommes engagés par un serment en présence du Juge Saint et en présence de Noah notre père.
36 Mais il ne les écouta pas et habita lui et ses fils dans la terre du Liban, de Hamath jusqu’à l’entrée de l’Égypte, jusqu’à ce jour. Et pour cette raison, ce pays est appelé Canaan.
37 Et Japheth et ses fils allèrent vers la mer et habitèrent dans le pays de leur portion et Madai vit le pays de la mer et cela ne lui plaisait pas et il demanda une [portion] à Ham et Asshur et Arpachshad, le frère de sa femme, et il habita dans le pays de Media, près du frère de sa femme, jusqu’à ce jour. Et il appela son habitation et l’habitation de ses fils Media d’après le nom de leur père Madai.

ובשבוע השלישי ליובל הזה החלו המלאכים הטמאים להחטיא את בני נוח לפתותם ולהשיבם עד דכא:
And in the third week of this jubilee the unclean demons began to lead astray the children of the sons of Noah; and to make to err and destroy them.
ויבואו בני נוח אל אביהם ויספרו לו על אודות הרוחות אשר החטיאו את בני בניהם הדיחום בחשכה והמיתום:
And the sons of Noah came to Noah their father, and they told him concerning the demons which were, leading astray and blinding and slaying his sons' sons.
ויתפלל אל ה' אלהיו ויאמר אלהי הרוחות לכל בשר אשר עשית ברחמיך ותצל אותי וגם בני ממי המבול ולא נתתני לראות שחת כאשר עשית לבנים משחיתים:
And he prayed before the Lord his God, and said: God of the spirits of all flesh, who hast shown mercy unto me, And hast saved me and my sons from the waters of the flood, And hast not caused me to perish as Thou didst the sons of perdition;
כי חסדך גדול עלי ורבים רחמיך על נפשי:
For Thy grace hath been great towards me, And great hath been Thy mercy to my soul;
יגדל נא חסדך על בניך אל ימשלו בם המלאכים הרעים לבל ישחיתום את הארץ:
Let Thy grace be lift up upon my sons,
הן ברכת אותי ואת בני כי נפרה ונרבה ונמלא את הארץ:
But do Thou bless me and my sons, that we may increase and multiply and replenish the earth.
אתה ידעת את אשר עשו השומרים אבות המלאכים האלה בימי:
And Thou knowest how Thy Watchers, the fathers of these spirits, acted in my day:
וגם את המלאכים האלה אשר בחיים חיתם אֱסור וכלאם בשאול תחתיה לבל ישחיתו בבני עבדך אלהי כי אכזרים המה ולהשחית נבראו:
and as for these spirits which are living, imprison them and hold them fast in the place of condemnation, and let them not bring destruction on the sons of thy servant, my God; for these are malignant, and created in order to destroy.
אל ימשלו ברוחות החיים כי אתה לבדך ידעת את משפטם ואל יהי להם שלטון על בני הצדק מעתה ועד עולם:
And let them not rule over the spirits of the living; for Thou alone canst exercise dominion over them. And let them not have power over the sons of the righteous from henceforth and for evermore."
ויאמר אלהינו אלינו לאסור את כולם:
And the Lord our God bade us to bind all.
ויבוא שר הרוחות משטמה ויאמר בי אדוני הלא יותרו מהם שרידים לפני לשמוע בקולי ולעשות את כל אשר אומר להם:
And the chief of the spirits, Mastêmâ, came and said: "Lord, Creator, let some of them remain before me, and let them hearken to my voice, and do all that I shall say unto them;
כי אם לא ישאר לי איש מהם לא אוכל להשלים כוח חפצי בבני אדם:
for if some of them are not left to me, I shall not be able to execute the power of my will on the sons of men;
כי הנה הנם להשחית ולהחטיא על פי דברי בממשלתי כי רבה רעת בני אדם:
for these are for corruption and leading astray before my judgment, for great is the wickedness of the sons of men."
ויאמר החלק העשירי יוותר מהם לפני ותשע ידות ירדו אל מקום המשפט:
And He said: "Let the tenth part of them remain before him, and let nine parts descend into the place of condemnation."
ויאמר אחד ממנו יורה לנוח את כל הרפואות כי ידע כי לא יתהלכו בצדקה ולא ילחמו במישרים:
And one of us He commanded that we should teach Noah all their medicines; for He knew that they would not walk in uprightness, nor strive in righteousness.
ונעשה כאשר ציווה ונאסור במקום העונש את כל הרעות המחבלים ואת החלק העשירי הותרנו מהם למען יעשו את משפט השטן על הארץ:
And we did according to all His words: all the malignant evil ones we bound in the place of condemnation, and a tenth part of them we left that they might be subject before Satan on the earth.
ואת הרפואות לכל מדוי הרוחות אמרנו לנוח ואת מזימות נכליהם להחטיא למען ירפאו בצמחי האדמה:
And we explained to Noah all the medicines of their diseases, together with their seductions, how he might heal them with herbs of the earth.
ויכתב נוח בספר את כל אשר הורינו אותו על כל מיני מרפא:
And Noah wrote down all things in a book as we instructed him concerning every kind of medicine.
ככה נכלאו הרוחות הרעות מעל בני נח:
Thus the evil. spirits were precluded from (hurting) the sons of Noah.
ויתן את כל המכתבים אשר כתב אל שם בנו הבכור כי אותו אהב מכל בניו:
And he gave all that he had written to Shem, his eldest son; for he loved him exceedingly above all his sons.
וישכב נוח עם אבותיו ויקבר על ההר לובר בארץ אררט:
And Noah slept with his fathers, and was buried on Mount Lûbâr in the land of Ararat.
תשע מאות שנה וחמישים שנה מלאו לימי חייו תשעה עשר יובלים ושני שבועים וחמש שנים:
Nine hundred and fifty years he completed in his life, nineteen jubilees and two weeks and five years.
ויהי בחייו על הארץ צדיק תמים מאוד נעלה על כל בני אדם מלבד חנוך:
And in his life on earth he excelled the children of men save Enoch because of the righteousness, wherein he was perfect.
כי תולדת חנוך היתה לעדות לדורות עולם להגיד את כל אשר יקרא לדור ודור ביום המשפט:
For Enoch's office was ordained for a testimony to the generations of the world, so that he should recount all the deeds of generation unto generation, till the day of judgment.
וביובל הארבעה ושלושים בשנה הראשונה לשבוע השני לקח לו פלג אשה ושמה לומנה בת שנער:
And in the three and thirtieth jubilee, in the first year in the second week, Peleg took to himself a wife, whose name was Lômnâ the daughter of Sînâ’ar,
ותלד לו בן בשנה הרביעית לשבוע הזה ויקרא את שמו רעו:
and she bare him a son in the fourth year of this week, and he called his name Reu;
כי אמר הנה הרעו בני אדם במזמת תועבה כי יזמו לבנות להם עיר ומגדל בארץ שנער כי נסעו מאררט מקדם אל שנער:
for he said: "Behold the children of men have become evil through the wicked purpose of building for themselves a city and a tower in the land of Shinar."
כי בימיו בנו עיר ומגדל באומרם נעלה בו השמימה:
For they departed from the land of Ararat eastward to Shinar; for in his days they built the city and the tower, saying, "Go to, let us ascend thereby into heaven."
ויחלו לבנות בשבוע הרביעי וישרפו באש ותהי להם הלבנה לאבן והחמר אשר דיבקו בו את טורי האבנים היה חמר מן הים ומעיני מים אשר בארץ שנער:
And they began to build, and in the fourth week they made brick with fire, and the bricks served them for stone, and the clay with which they cemented them together was asphalt which cometh out of the sea, and out of the fountains of water in the land of Shinar.
ויבנו אותה שלוש וארבעים שנה בנוהו לבניה שלמה מאתים ושלוש לבנים רחבו וגובה הלבנה שליש האחת חמשת אלפים וארבע מאות ושלושים ושלוש באמה עלה גבהו ושתי זרתות ושלוש עשרה פרסה:
And in the third week of this jubilee the unclean demons began to lead astray the children of the sons of Noah; and to make to err and destroy them.
ויאמר ה' אלהינו אלינו הן עם אחד וזה החילם לעשות ועתה לא ארף מהם:
And the Lord our God said unto us: "Behold, they are one people, and (this) they begin to do, and now nothing will be withholden from them.
הבה נרדה ונבל שפתם אשר לא ישמעו איש את רעהו:
Go to, let us go down and confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech,
ויפוצו בארצות ובגוים ולא יוסיפו עוד לשית עצה בלבבם עד יום המשפט:
and they may be dispersed into cities and nations, and one purpose will no longer abide with them till the day of judgment."
וירד ה' ונרד עמו לראות את העיר ואת המגדל אשר בנו בני האדם:
And the Lord descended, and we descended with Him to see the city and the tower which the children of men had built.
ויעלג כל מלה בלשונם ולא שמע איש שפת רעהו ויחדלו לבנות העיר והמגדל:
And He confounded their language, and they no longer understood one another's speech, and they ceased then to build the city and the tower.
על כן קרא שם כל ארץ שנער בבל כי שם בלל ה' שפת כל בני האדם ומשם נפוצו בעריהם ללשונותם ולגוייהם:
For this reason the whole land of Shinar is called Babel, because the Lord did there confound all the language of the children of men, and from thence they were dispersed into their cities, each according to his language and his nation.
וישלח ה' רוח חזק על מגדלם ויהרסהו על הארץ:
And the Lord sent a mighty wind against the tower and overthrew it upon the earth,
והנה הוא בין ארץ אשור ובין בבל בארץ שנער ויקראו את שמו חרבות:
and behold it was between Asshur and Babylon in the land of Shinar, and they called its name "Overthrow."
בשנה הראשונה לשבוע הרביעי ליובל החמשה ושלושים נפוצו בארץ שנער:
In the fourth week in the first year in the beginning thereof in the four and thirtieth jubilee, were they dispersed from the land of Shinar.
וילך חם ובניו אל הארץ אשר נפלה לו בגורל נחלתו אל ארץ הנגב:
And Ham and his sons went into the land which he was to occupy, which he acquired as his portion in the land of the south.
וכנען ראה את ארץ הלבנון עד נחל מצרים כי טובה היא מאוד ולא הלך אל ארץ נחלתו מערבה לים:
And Canaan saw the land of Lebanon to the river of Egypt that it was very good, and he went not into the land of his inheritance to the west (that is to) the sea,
וישב בארץ לבנון ממזרח וממערב לארץ הירדן ועש שפת הים לארכו:
and he dwelt in the land of Lebanon, eastward and westward from the border of Jordan and from the border of the sea.
ויאמרו אליו חם אביו וכוש ומצרים אחיו לאמור הן נאחזת בארץ לא לך אשר לא נפלה לנו בגורל:
And Ham, his father, and Cush and Mizraim, his brothers, said unto him: "Thou hast settled in a land which is not thine, and which did not fall to us by lot:
לא תעשה כן כי אם תעשה כה אז נפול תפול בחרב גם אתה גם בניך בארץ והייתם לאלה:
do not do so; for if thou dost do so, thou and thy sons will fall in the land and (be) accursed through sedition;
כי בחוזק החרב נאחזתם ובחזקת החרב יפלו בניך ונכרת לעולם:
for by sedition ye have settled, and by sedition will thy children fall, and thou shalt be rooted out for ever.
אל תשב בארץ מגורי שם כי לשם ולבניו נפלה בגורל לנחלה:
Dwell not in the dwelling of Shem; for to Shem and to his sons did it come by their lot.
ארור אתה וארור תהיה מכל בני נוח באלה אשר נשבענו לפני השופט הקדוש ולפני אבינו נח:
Cursed art thou, and cursed shalt thou be beyond all the sons of Noah, by the curse by which we bound ourselves by an oath in the presence of the holy judge, and in the presence of Noah our father."
ולא שמע בקולם וישב בארץ לבנון מן חמת עד לבוא מצרימה הוא ובניו עד היום הזה על כן קרא לארץ ההיא כנען:
But he did not hearken unto them, and dwelt in the land of Lebanon from Hamath to the entering of Egypt, he and his sons until this day.
And for this reason that land is named Canaan.
ויפת ובניו נסעו לפאת מערבה וישבו בארץ נחלתם:
And Japheth and his sons went towards the sea and dwelt in the land of their portion,
וירא מדי את הארץ הים ותיטב בעיניו וידרוש אותה מאת עילם ואשור וארפכשד אחי אשתו:
and Madai saw the land of the sea and it did not please him, and he begged a (portion) from Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad, his wife's brother,
וישב בארץ מדי על פני אחי אשתו עד היום הזה ויקרא את שם מושבו ושם מושב בניו מדי על שם אביהם מדי:
and he dwelt in the land of Media, near to his wife's brother until this day.
And he called his dwelling-place, and the dwelling-place of his sons, Media, after the name of their father Madai.
ובשבוע השלישי ליובל הזה החלו המלאכים הטמאים להחטיא את בני נוח לפתותם ולהשיבם עד דכא:
And in the third week of this jubilee the unclean demons began to lead astray the children of the sons of Noah; and to make to err and destroy them.
ויבואו בני נוח אל אביהם ויספרו לו על אודות הרוחות אשר החטיאו את בני בניהם הדיחום בחשכה והמיתום:
And the sons of Noah came to Noah their father, and they told him concerning the demons which were, leading astray and blinding and slaying his sons' sons.
ויתפלל אל ה' אלהיו ויאמר אלהי הרוחות לכל בשר אשר עשית ברחמיך ותצל אותי וגם בני ממי המבול ולא נתתני לראות שחת כאשר עשית לבנים משחיתים:
And he prayed before the Lord his God, and said: God of the spirits of all flesh, who hast shown mercy unto me, And hast saved me and my sons from the waters of the flood, And hast not caused me to perish as Thou didst the sons of perdition;
כי חסדך גדול עלי ורבים רחמיך על נפשי:
For Thy grace hath been great towards me, And great hath been Thy mercy to my soul;
יגדל נא חסדך על בניך אל ימשלו בם המלאכים הרעים לבל ישחיתום את הארץ:
Let Thy grace be lift up upon my sons,
הן ברכת אותי ואת בני כי נפרה ונרבה ונמלא את הארץ:
But do Thou bless me and my sons, that we may increase and multiply and replenish the earth.
אתה ידעת את אשר עשו השומרים אבות המלאכים האלה בימי:
And Thou knowest how Thy Watchers, the fathers of these spirits, acted in my day:
וגם את המלאכים האלה אשר בחיים חיתם אֱסור וכלאם בשאול תחתיה לבל ישחיתו בבני עבדך אלהי כי אכזרים המה ולהשחית נבראו:
and as for these spirits which are living, imprison them and hold them fast in the place of condemnation, and let them not bring destruction on the sons of thy servant, my God; for these are malignant, and created in order to destroy.
אל ימשלו ברוחות החיים כי אתה לבדך ידעת את משפטם ואל יהי להם שלטון על בני הצדק מעתה ועד עולם:
And let them not rule over the spirits of the living; for Thou alone canst exercise dominion over them. And let them not have power over the sons of the righteous from henceforth and for evermore."
ויאמר אלהינו אלינו לאסור את כולם:
And the Lord our God bade us to bind all.
ויבוא שר הרוחות משטמה ויאמר בי אדוני הלא יותרו מהם שרידים לפני לשמוע בקולי ולעשות את כל אשר אומר להם:
And the chief of the spirits, Mastêmâ, came and said: "Lord, Creator, let some of them remain before me, and let them hearken to my voice, and do all that I shall say unto them;
כי אם לא ישאר לי איש מהם לא אוכל להשלים כוח חפצי בבני אדם:
for if some of them are not left to me, I shall not be able to execute the power of my will on the sons of men;
כי הנה הנם להשחית ולהחטיא על פי דברי בממשלתי כי רבה רעת בני אדם:
for these are for corruption and leading astray before my judgment, for great is the wickedness of the sons of men."
ויאמר החלק העשירי יוותר מהם לפני ותשע ידות ירדו אל מקום המשפט:
And He said: "Let the tenth part of them remain before him, and let nine parts descend into the place of condemnation."
ויאמר אחד ממנו יורה לנוח את כל הרפואות כי ידע כי לא יתהלכו בצדקה ולא ילחמו במישרים:
And one of us He commanded that we should teach Noah all their medicines; for He knew that they would not walk in uprightness, nor strive in righteousness.
ונעשה כאשר ציווה ונאסור במקום העונש את כל הרעות המחבלים ואת החלק העשירי הותרנו מהם למען יעשו את משפט השטן על הארץ:
And we did according to all His words: all the malignant evil ones we bound in the place of condemnation, and a tenth part of them we left that they might be subject before Satan on the earth.
ואת הרפואות לכל מדוי הרוחות אמרנו לנוח ואת מזימות נכליהם להחטיא למען ירפאו בצמחי האדמה:
And we explained to Noah all the medicines of their diseases, together with their seductions, how he might heal them with herbs of the earth.
ויכתב נוח בספר את כל אשר הורינו אותו על כל מיני מרפא:
And Noah wrote down all things in a book as we instructed him concerning every kind of medicine.
ככה נכלאו הרוחות הרעות מעל בני נח:
Thus the evil. spirits were precluded from (hurting) the sons of Noah.
ויתן את כל המכתבים אשר כתב אל שם בנו הבכור כי אותו אהב מכל בניו:
And he gave all that he had written to Shem, his eldest son; for he loved him exceedingly above all his sons.
וישכב נוח עם אבותיו ויקבר על ההר לובר בארץ אררט:
And Noah slept with his fathers, and was buried on Mount Lûbâr in the land of Ararat.
תשע מאות שנה וחמישים שנה מלאו לימי חייו תשעה עשר יובלים ושני שבועים וחמש שנים:
Nine hundred and fifty years he completed in his life, nineteen jubilees and two weeks and five years.
ויהי בחייו על הארץ צדיק תמים מאוד נעלה על כל בני אדם מלבד חנוך:
And in his life on earth he excelled the children of men save Enoch because of the righteousness, wherein he was perfect.
כי תולדת חנוך היתה לעדות לדורות עולם להגיד את כל אשר יקרא לדור ודור ביום המשפט:
For Enoch's office was ordained for a testimony to the generations of the world, so that he should recount all the deeds of generation unto generation, till the day of judgment.
וביובל הארבעה ושלושים בשנה הראשונה לשבוע השני לקח לו פלג אשה ושמה לומנה בת שנער:
And in the three and thirtieth jubilee, in the first year in the second week, Peleg took to himself a wife, whose name was Lômnâ the daughter of Sînâ’ar,
ותלד לו בן בשנה הרביעית לשבוע הזה ויקרא את שמו רעו:
and she bare him a son in the fourth year of this week, and he called his name Reu;
כי אמר הנה הרעו בני אדם במזמת תועבה כי יזמו לבנות להם עיר ומגדל בארץ שנער כי נסעו מאררט מקדם אל שנער:
for he said: "Behold the children of men have become evil through the wicked purpose of building for themselves a city and a tower in the land of Shinar."
כי בימיו בנו עיר ומגדל באומרם נעלה בו השמימה:
For they departed from the land of Ararat eastward to Shinar; for in his days they built the city and the tower, saying, "Go to, let us ascend thereby into heaven."
ויחלו לבנות בשבוע הרביעי וישרפו באש ותהי להם הלבנה לאבן והחמר אשר דיבקו בו את טורי האבנים היה חמר מן הים ומעיני מים אשר בארץ שנער:
And they began to build, and in the fourth week they made brick with fire, and the bricks served them for stone, and the clay with which they cemented them together was asphalt which cometh out of the sea, and out of the fountains of water in the land of Shinar.
ויבנו אותה שלוש וארבעים שנה בנוהו לבניה שלמה מאתים ושלוש לבנים רחבו וגובה הלבנה שליש האחת חמשת אלפים וארבע מאות ושלושים ושלוש באמה עלה גבהו ושתי זרתות ושלוש עשרה פרסה:
And in the third week of this jubilee the unclean demons began to lead astray the children of the sons of Noah; and to make to err and destroy them.
ויאמר ה' אלהינו אלינו הן עם אחד וזה החילם לעשות ועתה לא ארף מהם:
And the Lord our God said unto us: "Behold, they are one people, and (this) they begin to do, and now nothing will be withholden from them.
הבה נרדה ונבל שפתם אשר לא ישמעו איש את רעהו:
Go to, let us go down and confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech,
ויפוצו בארצות ובגוים ולא יוסיפו עוד לשית עצה בלבבם עד יום המשפט:
and they may be dispersed into cities and nations, and one purpose will no longer abide with them till the day of judgment."
וירד ה' ונרד עמו לראות את העיר ואת המגדל אשר בנו בני האדם:
And the Lord descended, and we descended with Him to see the city and the tower which the children of men had built.
ויעלג כל מלה בלשונם ולא שמע איש שפת רעהו ויחדלו לבנות העיר והמגדל:
And He confounded their language, and they no longer understood one another's speech, and they ceased then to build the city and the tower.
על כן קרא שם כל ארץ שנער בבל כי שם בלל ה' שפת כל בני האדם ומשם נפוצו בעריהם ללשונותם ולגוייהם:
For this reason the whole land of Shinar is called Babel, because the Lord did there confound all the language of the children of men, and from thence they were dispersed into their cities, each according to his language and his nation.
וישלח ה' רוח חזק על מגדלם ויהרסהו על הארץ:
And the Lord sent a mighty wind against the tower and overthrew it upon the earth,
והנה הוא בין ארץ אשור ובין בבל בארץ שנער ויקראו את שמו חרבות:
and behold it was between Asshur and Babylon in the land of Shinar, and they called its name "Overthrow."
בשנה הראשונה לשבוע הרביעי ליובל החמשה ושלושים נפוצו בארץ שנער:
In the fourth week in the first year in the beginning thereof in the four and thirtieth jubilee, were they dispersed from the land of Shinar.
וילך חם ובניו אל הארץ אשר נפלה לו בגורל נחלתו אל ארץ הנגב:
And Ham and his sons went into the land which he was to occupy, which he acquired as his portion in the land of the south.
וכנען ראה את ארץ הלבנון עד נחל מצרים כי טובה היא מאוד ולא הלך אל ארץ נחלתו מערבה לים:
And Canaan saw the land of Lebanon to the river of Egypt that it was very good, and he went not into the land of his inheritance to the west (that is to) the sea,
וישב בארץ לבנון ממזרח וממערב לארץ הירדן ועש שפת הים לארכו:
and he dwelt in the land of Lebanon, eastward and westward from the border of Jordan and from the border of the sea.
ויאמרו אליו חם אביו וכוש ומצרים אחיו לאמור הן נאחזת בארץ לא לך אשר לא נפלה לנו בגורל:
And Ham, his father, and Cush and Mizraim, his brothers, said unto him: "Thou hast settled in a land which is not thine, and which did not fall to us by lot:
לא תעשה כן כי אם תעשה כה אז נפול תפול בחרב גם אתה גם בניך בארץ והייתם לאלה:
do not do so; for if thou dost do so, thou and thy sons will fall in the land and (be) accursed through sedition;
כי בחוזק החרב נאחזתם ובחזקת החרב יפלו בניך ונכרת לעולם:
for by sedition ye have settled, and by sedition will thy children fall, and thou shalt be rooted out for ever.
אל תשב בארץ מגורי שם כי לשם ולבניו נפלה בגורל לנחלה:
Dwell not in the dwelling of Shem; for to Shem and to his sons did it come by their lot.
ארור אתה וארור תהיה מכל בני נוח באלה אשר נשבענו לפני השופט הקדוש ולפני אבינו נח:
Cursed art thou, and cursed shalt thou be beyond all the sons of Noah, by the curse by which we bound ourselves by an oath in the presence of the holy judge, and in the presence of Noah our father."
ולא שמע בקולם וישב בארץ לבנון מן חמת עד לבוא מצרימה הוא ובניו עד היום הזה על כן קרא לארץ ההיא כנען:
But he did not hearken unto them, and dwelt in the land of Lebanon from Hamath to the entering of Egypt, he and his sons until this day.
And for this reason that land is named Canaan.
And for this reason that land is named Canaan.
ויפת ובניו נסעו לפאת מערבה וישבו בארץ נחלתם:
And Japheth and his sons went towards the sea and dwelt in the land of their portion,
וירא מדי את הארץ הים ותיטב בעיניו וידרוש אותה מאת עילם ואשור וארפכשד אחי אשתו:
and Madai saw the land of the sea and it did not please him, and he begged a (portion) from Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad, his wife's brother,
וישב בארץ מדי על פני אחי אשתו עד היום הזה ויקרא את שם מושבו ושם מושב בניו מדי על שם אביהם מדי:
and he dwelt in the land of Media, near to his wife's brother until this day.
And he called his dwelling-place, and the dwelling-place of his sons, Media, after the name of their father Madai.
