1 Et dans la 1e année de la 3e semaine du 35e jubilé, Reu prit pour lui une femme et son nom était Ora, fille d’Ur le fils de Kesed, et dans la 7e année de cette semaine de ce jubilé elle lui porta un fils et il appela son nom Seroh.
2 Et les fils de Noah commencèrent à se faire la guerre l’un contre l’autre, à prendre en captivité et se massacrer l’un l’autre et à verser le sang des hommes sur la terre et à manger du sang et à se construire des villes fortes, des murs et des tours, et des personnalités [commencèrent] à s’exalter au-dessus de la nation et fonder les déclenchements des royaumes et faire la guerre, peuple contre peuple et nation contre nation et ville contre ville ;
3 et tous [commencèrent] à faire le mal et à acquérir des armes et apprendre à leurs fils à faire la guerre - et ils commencèrent à capturer des villes et vendre des esclaves mâles et femelles.
4 Et Ur le fils de Kesed construisit la ville de Ara de Chaldée et appela son nom d’après son propre nom et du nom de son père.
5 Et ils firent pour eux des images moulues et ils vénérèrent chaque idole d’image moulue qu’ils s’étaient faite et ils commencèrent à faire des images gravées et simulacre impur, et les souffles malins les assistaient et [les] égaraient à commettre la transgression et l’impureté.
6 Et le prince Mastema s’appliquait à faire tout cela et il envoyait d’autres souffles, ceux qui avaient été mis sous sa main, pour faire toute action d’erreur et de péché et tout acte de transgression, pour corrompre et détruire et verser le sang sur la terre.
7 Pour cette raison il appela le nom de Seroh, Serug, parce que chacun déviait pour faire tout acte de péché et de transgression.
8 Et il grandit et habitait à Ur de Chaldée près du père de la mère de sa femme, et il adorait des idoles. Et dans la 1e année de la 5e semaine du 36e jubilé, il prit pour lui une femme et son nom était Melka, fille de Kaber, la fille du frère de son père, et dans la 1e année de cette semaine elle lui porta Nahor et il grandit et habitait à Ur de Chaldée et son père lui apprit les inquisitions de devin et d’augure de la Chaldée selon les signes du ciel.
9 Et dans la 1e année de la 6e semaine du 37e jubilé, il prit pour lui une femme et son nom était Tjaska, fille de Nestag de Chaldée et dans la 7e année de cette semaine elle lui porta Terah.
10 Et le prince Mastema envoya des corbeaux et des oiseaux dévorer la semence qui était semée dans le pays pour détruire la terre et destituer aux enfants des hommes leurs travaux ; avant qu’ils puissent jeter la semence, les corbeaux [la] saisissaient à la surface du sol.
11 Et pour cette raison qu’il appela son nom Terah, parce que les corbeaux et les oiseaux les nuisaient par destitution et dévoraient leur semence. Et les années devinrent improductives à cause des oiseaux et ils dévoraient tout fruit d’arbre sur les arbres, et c’est seulement d’un effort grandiose qu’ils pouvaient sauver le peu de tout fruit de la terre en leurs jours.
12 Et dans la 1e année de la 2e semaine de ce 39e jubilé, Terah prit pour lui une femme et son nom était Edna, fille d’Abram, la fille de la sœur de son père.
13 Et dans la 7e année de cette semaine elle lui porta un fils et il appela son nom Abram d’après le nom du père de sa mère, car il était mort avant que sa fille eut conçu un fils.
14 Et l’enfant commença à comprendre les égarements de la terre, que tous s’étaient égarés après les images gravées et après l’impureté.
15 Et son père lui apprit l’écriture quand il avait 2 semaines d’années et il se sépara de son père pour ne pas adorer les idoles avec lui.
16 Et il commença à prier le Créateur de toutes choses pour qu’Il l’épargne des égarements des enfants des hommes et que sa portion ne tombe pas dans l’erreur par l’impureté et la vilénie.
17 Et le temps des semailles arriva pour ensemencer le sol de semence et tous sortirent ensemble protéger leur semence contre les corbeaux, et Abram alla avec ceux qui allaient et l’enfant était un garçon de 14 ans.
18 Et lorsqu’un nuage de corbeaux vint pour dévorer la semence, Abram courrut à leur rencontre avant qu’ils atteignent le sol et cria après eux et dit : Ne descendez pas. Retournez à l’endroit d’où vous venez !
19 Et ils se détournaient. Et sur la terre entière où Abram était ce jour-là, il repoussa 70 fois les nuées de corbeaux à partir et tous les corbeaux se dissipèrent jusqu’au dernier.
20 Et tous ceux de la terre qui étaient avec lui le virent crier et repousser tous les corbeaux, et son nom devint grand dans le pays de Chaldée.
21 Et cette année-là tous ceux qui désiraient semer vinrent à lui et il alla avec eux jusqu’à ce que le temps des semailles se termine et ils semèrent leur terre et rapportèrent assez de grain cette année et ils mangèrent et furent rassasiés.
22 Et dans la 1e année de la 5e semaine, Abram donna instruction à ceux qui font des instruments pour les bœufs, les artisans du bois, et ils fabriquèrent un bassin au-dessus du sol, face à l'armature de la charrue, pour y mettre le grain afin que le grain retombe sur la pointe de la charrue, caché dans la terre - et ils ne craignirent plus les corbeaux.
23 Et suivant cette méthode ils mirent [des bassins] au-dessus du sol sur toutes les armatures des charrues et ils semèrent et labourèrent toute la terre suivant ce que Abram leur recommanda et ils ne craignirent plus les oiseaux.

וביובל החמשה ושלושים בשבוע השלישי בשנה הראשונה בו לקח רעו אשה ושמה ערה בת בן כשד:
And in the thirty-fifth jubilee, in the third week, in the first year thereof, Reu took to himself a wife, and her name was ’Ôrâ, the daughter of ’Ûr, the son of Kêsêd,
ותלד לו בן ויקרא את שמו שרוג בשנה השביעית לשבוע ההוא וליובל ההוא:
and she bare him a son, and he called his name Sêrôḫ, in the seventh year of this week in this jubilee.
ובני נוח החלו להלחם איש באחיו לשבות שבי ולהמית ולשפוך דם אדם על הארץ ולאכול דם:
And the sons of Noah began to war on each other, to take captive and to slay each other, and to shed the blood of men on the earth, and to eat blood,
ולבנות ערים בצורות וחומות ומגדלים ואנשים מהם הואילו להתנשא על העם וליסוד ממלכות בראשיתם:
and to build strong cities, and walls, and towers, and individuals (began) to exalt themselves above the nation, and to found the beginnings of kingdoms,
ולעשות מלחמה ולסכסך עם בעם וגוים ובגוים ועיר בעיר ולהרע את כל ולעשות להם חרב וחנית וללמד את בניהם קשת:
and to go to war people against people, and nation against nation, and city against city, and all (began) to do evil, and to acquire arms, and to teach their sons war,
ויחלו ללכוד ערים ולמכור עבדים ושפחות:
and they began to capture cities, and to sell male and female slaves.
ואור בן כשד בנה את העיר אור כשדים ויקרא לה בשמו ובשם אביו:
And ’Ûr, the son of Kêsêd, built the city of ’Arâ of the Chaldees, and called its name after his own name and the name of his father.
ויעש להם כוכבים וישתחו לכל אלהי מסכה אשר עשה לו:
And they made for themselves molten images, and they worshipped each the idol, the molten image which they had made for themselves,
ויחלו לעשות פסילים ומצבות וכל תועבה והרוחות הטמאות עזרו להם ויתעום לאשום אשם ולהטמא:
and they began to make graven images and unclean simulacra, and malignant spirits assisted and seduced (them) into committing transgression and uncleanness.
והשר משטמה התאמץ לעשות את כל זאת ויפעל עלילות רשע וחטאים וכל פשע על ידי הרוחות אשר תחת ממשלתו להשחית ולהאביד ולשפוך דם על הארץ:
And the prince Mastêmâ exerted himself to do all this, and he sent forth other spirits, those which were put under his hand, to do all manner of wrong and sin, and all manner of transgression, to corrupt and destroy, and to shed blood upon the earth.
לכן קרא שמו שרוד כי שרך דרכו לעשות רק חטא ופשע:
For this reason he called the name of Sêrôḫ, Serug, for every one turned to do all manner of sin and transgression.
ויגדל וישב באור כשדים על פני אבות וישתחו לאלילים:
And he grew up, and dwelt in Ur of the Chaldees, near to the father of his wife's mother, and he worshipped idols,
ויקח לו אשה ביובל הששה ושלושים בשבוע החמישי בשנה הראשונה ושמה מלכה בת חבר בת אביו:
and he took to himself a wife in the thirty-sixth jubilee, in the fifth week, in the first year thereof, and her name was Mêlkâ, the daughter of Kâbêr, the daughter of his father's brother.
ותלד לו את נחור בשנה הראשונה לשבוע ההוא ויגדל וישב באור באור כשדים:
And she bare him Nahor, in the first year of this week, and he grew and dwelt in Ur of the Chaldees,
ואביו לימד אותו את חכמת הכשדים לנבא ולנחש עתידות על פי אותות השמים:
and his father taught him the researches of the Chaldees to divine and augur, according to the signs of heaven.
וביובל השבעה ושלושים בשבוע הששי בשנה הראשונה לקח לו אשה ושמה יסכה בת נסתג מן הכשדים ותלד לו בן את תרח בשנה השביעית לשבוע ההוא:
And in the thirty-seventh jubilee, in the sixth week, in the first year thereof, he took to himself a wife, and her name was ’Îjâskâ, the daughter of Nêstâg of the Chaldees. And she bare him Terah in the seventh year of this week.
וישלח השר משטמה עורבים וצפרים לאכול את הזרע אשר נזרע על האדמה למען שחת את הארץ לחמוס מבני האדם את תבואותיהם:
And the prince Mastêmâ sent ravens and birds to devour the seed which was sown in the land, in order to destroy the land, and rob the children of men of their labours.
כי בטרם יעמיקו את הזרע במחרשה לקטו אותו העורבים מעל פני האדמה:
Before they could plough in the seed, the ravens picked (it) from the surface of the ground.
לכן קרא שמו תרח כי התחרו בהם העורבים והצפרים ויאכלו אכול את זרעם:
And for this reason he called his name Terah, because the ravens and the birds reduced them to destitution and devoured their seed.
ותחלנה שני הרעב מפני הצפרים ואת כל פרי העץ אכלו מעל העצים:
And the years began to be barren, owing to the birds, and they devoured all the fruit of the trees from the trees:
ורק בעמל גדול יכלו בימיהם להציל מעט מכל פרי האדמה:
it was only with great effort that they could save a little of all the fruit of the earth in their days.
וביובל התשעה ושלושים בשבוע השני בשנה הראשונה לקח לו תרח אשה ושמה עדנה בת ארם בת אחות אביו לו לאשה:
And in this thirty-ninth jubilee, in the second week in the first year, Terah took to himself a wife, and her name was ’Êdnâ, the daughter of ’Abrâm the daughter of his father's sister.
ובשנה השביעית לשבוע ההוא ילדה בן ויקרא את שמו אברם כשם אבי אמו כי מת בטרם הרתה לבן:
And in the seventh year of this week she bare him a son, and he called his name Abram, by the name of the father of his mother; for he had died before his daughter had conceived a son.
ותפקחנה עיני הנער לראות בפשע הארץ כי נתעו בשוא על ידי הפסילים והתועבה:
And the child began to understand the errors of the earth that all went astray after graven images and after uncleanness,
ויורהו אביו לכתוב ובהיותו בן שבועים התפרד מאת אביו לבלתי השתחוות כמוהו לאלילים:
and his father taught him writing, and he was two weeks of years old, and he separated himself from his father that he might not worship idols with him.
ויואל להתפלל אל הבורא כל היקום להצילהו משגיאת בני האדם ולבל יפול חלקו בפשע ורשע אחרי התהלכו במישרים:
And he began to pray to the Creator of all things that He might save him from the errors of the children of men, and that his portion should not fall into error after uncleanness and vileness.
ויהי בימי הזרע לזרוע את הארץ ויצאו כולם יחדו לשמור את זרעם מפני העורבים:
And the seed time came for the sowing of seed upon the land, and they all went forth together to protect their seed against the ravens,
ויצא אברם ביניהם והוא נער בן ארבע עשרה שנה ותבוא עדת עורבים כענן לאכול את הזרע:
and Abram went forth with those that went, and the child was a lad of fourteen years.
And a cloud of ravens came to devour the seed,
וירץ אברם לקראתם בטרם ירדו על הארץ ויגער בהם בטרם יפשטו על הארץ לאכול את הזרע לאמור:
and Abram ran to meet them before they settled on the ground, and cried to them before they settled on the ground to devour the seed, and said,
אל תרדו הנה שובו אל המקום אשר באתם משם וישובו:
"Descend not: return to the place whence ye came," and they proceeded to turn back.
ויעשו כן ביום ההוא לשבעה חבלי עורבים ומכל העורבים לא ירד גם אחד על חלקת השדה אשר היה שם אברם:
And he caused the clouds of ravens to turn back that day seventy times, and of all the ravens throughout all the land where Abram was there settled there not so much as one.
וכל העומדים עמו על השדה ההוא ראו כי גער לאמור העורבים שובו ויגדל שמו בכל ארץ הכשדים:
And all who were with him throughout all the land saw him cry out, and all the ravens turn back, and his name became great in all the land of the Chaldees.
ויבואו אליו בשנה ההיא כל זורעי זרע וילך אתם עד כלות ימי הזרע:
And there came to him this year all those that wished to sow, and he went with them until the time of sowing ceased:
ויזרעו את אדמתם ויאספו בשנה ההיא את תבואתם ויאכלו וישבעו:
and they sowed their land, and that year they brought enough grain home and ate and were satisfied.
ובשנה הראשונה לשבוע החמישי לימד אברם את חרשי העץ העושים את כלי הבקר:
And in the first year of the fifth week Abram taught those who made implements for oxen,
ויעשו כלי ממעל לארץ לעומת דרבן המחרשה לשום עליו את משך הזרע ולהפילהו משם אל תוך מענית הזרע להסתר באדמה:
the artificers in wood, and they made a vessel above the ground, facing the frame of the plough, in order to put the seed thereon, and the seed fell down therefrom upon the share of the plough, and was hidden in the earth,
ולא יראו עוד מפני העורבים ויעשו כן בכל דרבנות המחרשות ממעל לארץ:
and they no longer feared the ravens. And after this manner they made (vessels) above the ground on all the frames of the ploughs,
ויזרעו ויעבדו את כל הארץ ככל אשר צוה אותם אברם ולא יראו עוד מפני העורבים:
and they sowed and tilled all the land, according as Abram commanded them, and they no longer feared the birds.
